Angel Reese Breaks Candace Parker’s WNBA Record, Focuses on Team Success
In a remarkable display of talent and dedication, Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese has shattered a significant WNBA record previously held by the legendary Candace Parker. Reese broke Parker’s record for the most consecutive double-doubles, achieving 15 double-doubles in her first year in the league.
Reese, known as “Chi-Barbie,” has been a dominant force under the backboard, showcasing her prowess as a rebounder and scorer. She also briefly held the record for most rebounds in a single season with 446, although a wrist injury prevented her from extending this record, and A'ja Wilson ultimately surpassed her with 451 rebounds for the season.
Despite her individual achievements, Reese remains focused on the team’s success. In an interview with Athlon Sports, she emphasized, “I’m truly not focused on my individual accolades,” and highlighted her commitment to the team’s collective goals: “I’m always focused on our team and what we need to do collectively to win”.
Reese also spoke about her mentorship under Shaquille O'Neal, a four-time NBA champion. She credited Shaq for his guidance both on and off the court, helping her develop a business mindset alongside her basketball skills. “He reminds me that I need to stay focused on basketball, but I should always be developing my off-court businesses too,” Reese said.
With the Sky’s season ending without a playoff spot, Reese is already looking forward to new challenges, including participating in the Unrivaled 3-on-3 basketball league set to start in January 2025. She expressed excitement about the league, which offers equity to players, and her eagerness to improve her game and compete with top athletes.
