Antonio Banderas Joins A24’s Anthony Bourdain Biopic ‘Tony’

Los Angeles, CA — Antonio Banderas will star alongside Dominic Sessa in the upcoming A24 biopic titled “Tony,” which focuses on a young Anthony Bourdain‘s pivotal summer in 1976.

The film, directed by Matt Johnson, follows Bourdain during a life-changing experience while living and working in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Production is set to start next month.

Dominic Sessa, a 22-year-old actor, had previously been reported as cast in the role of Bourdain. Banderas’ specific character remains undisclosed, adding intrigue to the project.

Anthony Bourdain was known for his influential memoir, “Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly,” published in 2000, as well as his Emmy-winning television work in shows like “No Reservations” and “Parts Unknown.” Bourdain died in 2018 in Strasbourg, France, at the age of 61.

The screenplay for “Tony” is written by Todd Bartels and Lou Howe. A24 will co-finance the project along with Star Thrower and Zapruder Films. Star Thrower’s Tim and Trevor White, along with director Johnson, are producing the film.

Johnson previously garnered acclaim for his work on the film “Blackberry” and is represented by CAA. Sessa is represented by CAA and Untitled. Banderas is represented by Emanuel Nunez at NuCo Media Group and George Hayum at Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof and Fishman.

In addition to “Tony,” A24 has several other biopics in development, showcasing the diversity of stories being brought to the screen.
