Apple Faces Class Action Over Siri Accusations

Cupertino, California – Apple Inc. has agreed to pay $95 million to settle a class action lawsuit stemming from allegations that its Siri virtual assistant was activated accidentally to eavesdrop on users. This lawsuit impacts customers who owned or purchased a Siri-enabled device, such as an iPhone or iPad, between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024.
The lawsuit claims that Siri, which was launched by Apple in 2011, activated without user consent and recorded private conversations. According to the plaintiffs, this unauthorized activation allowed Apple to use snippets of conversations to target advertisements.
In response, Apple denies these allegations and maintains that it has never used Siri data for marketing purposes, asserting that user privacy is a priority. An Apple spokesperson stated, “Apple has never used Siri data to build marketing profiles, never made it available for advertising, and never sold it to anyone for any purpose.”
Consumers who experienced unintended Siri activations during confidential conversations are eligible for compensation. Affected individuals should have received an email with details on how to submit a claim. Claims can be filed online, and those who are eligible can request payments of up to $20 per device, with a limit of five devices per claimant.
The deadline to file a claim is July 2, 2025. The court will hold a final approval hearing on August 1, where it will review the settlement’s fairness. Payments would be disbursed later in the year if the settlement is approved.
