CUPERTINO, Calif. — Apple has unveiled the iPhone 16e, an affordable addition to its popular iPhone 16 lineup. Announced on February 19, 2025, the new smartphone promises advanced features without breaking the bank, starting at $599. The iPhone 16e boasts the fast A18 chip alongside Apple’s first custom-designed C1 cellular modem, providing exceptional performance and extended battery life.
Available for pre-order on February 21, the iPhone 16e will officially launch on February 28. This model features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display, enhanced durability with an IP68 rating for splash, water, and dust resistance, and a 48MP Fusion camera capable of 4K video recording with Dolby Vision.
“iPhone 16e packs in the features our users love about the iPhone 16 lineup, including breakthrough battery life, fast performance powered by the latest-generation A18 chip, an innovative 2-in-1 camera system, and Apple Intelligence,” said Kaiann Drance, Apple’s Vice President of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing. “We’re so excited for iPhone 16e to complete the lineup as a powerful, more affordable option to bring the iPhone experience to even more people.”
At the heart of the iPhone 16e is the A18 chip, delivering up to 80% faster performance than the previous generation A13 Bionic chip. The device is designed to handle intensive tasks and mobile gaming seamlessly. Coupled with the C1 modem, users can expect fast 5G connectivity and significant improvements in power efficiency.
One of the standout features of the iPhone 16e is its battery life, exceeding previous models significantly. It offers up to six hours longer battery life compared to the iPhone 11, making it ideal for users who require long-lasting performance.
In addition to its impressive technical specifications, the iPhone 16e supports innovative features such as Apple Intelligence. This system enhances user interaction through AI-powered tools like image editing and natural language search. The 48MP camera integrates a 2x Telephoto lens, allowing users to capture detailed images while ensuring beautiful portrait shots with the TrueDepth front camera.
The iPhone 16e also includes a unique Action button, which can be customized to quickly access various features, ranging from camera functions to Apple services such as Shazam and Focus modes. Furthermore, its visual intelligence capabilities help users identify objects and manage tasks efficiently.
Security features remain a priority, with Face ID ensuring user data protection while enabling seamless payment and app access. Also notable is Apple’s commitment to environmental sustainability; the iPhone 16e contains over 30% recycled materials and comes in packaging designed to eliminate plastic.
As part of Apple’s intention to expand its customer base, the iPhone 16e represents a strategic move into the mid-range smartphone market. With trade-in options available, current iPhone users may find an attractive pathway to upgrade, possibly offsetting costs significantly through carrier offers.
With its enhanced features, affordability, and Apple’s continued commitment to privacy and environmental responsibility, the iPhone 16e is poised to appeal to a wide array of consumers looking to transition to a premium smartphone experience.
