Ariana Debose Reacts To Joke About Her Singing Abilities At Critics Choice Awards

Ariana DeBose, the Academy Award-winning actor, appeared visibly insulted by a joke made about her singing abilities during the Critics Choice Awards on Sunday night.

Bella Ramsey, known for her role in ‘The Last of Us‘, jokingly referred to DeBose, Ryan Gosling, and Jack Black as ‘actors that think they are singers’ while they were on stage presenting the Critics Choice Award for ‘Best Original Song’.

DeBose, who is renowned for her performances in Broadway musicals, including ‘Hamilton‘, later addressed the joke on Instagram, expressing that she did not find it funny.

The joke may have been referencing DeBose’s rap performance at the British Academy of Film and Television Art Awards last year, which received mixed reviews from netizens. Following this incident, DeBose deactivated her social media account on X.

Screenwriter Cinco Paul, who has worked with DeBose on the musical comedy series ‘Schmigadoon!’, voiced his opinion on the matter on X, calling the joke embarrassing and sharing a clip showcasing DeBose’s singing prowess.

Ariana DeBose’s singing talents have been widely recognized, as she became the first Afro-Latina actress to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Anita in Steven Spielberg‘s ‘West Side Story’.
