Armie Hammer Launches New Podcast, Addresses Cannibalism Accusations and Hollywood Exile
Actor Armie Hammer, known for his roles in films like ‘Call Me by Your Name‘ and ‘The Social Network,’ has made a significant move towards a public comeback with the launch of his new podcast, ‘The Armie HammerTime Podcast.’ This initiative comes after a tumultuous few years marked by severe allegations of sexual assault, abuse, and cannibalistic fantasies that led to his exile from Hollywood.
In the debut episode of his podcast, Hammer discussed the aftermath of the allegations with his first guest, comedian Tom Arnold. Hammer admitted that he has developed a somewhat ironic affection for the cannibalism accusations, stating, “I’m not gonna lie. I kinda like the cannibal stuff now. I’m just like, ‘Hey I’m a cannibal,'” and noted that such sensational claims garner more attention than denials or apologies.
The allegations against Hammer began to surface in early 2021, when an anonymous Instagram account shared text messages allegedly from Hammer, detailing sexual fantasies that included references to rape, violence, and cannibalism. These accusations led to a nine-month criminal investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, although in May 2023, prosecutors announced that Hammer would not be charged due to insufficient evidence.
As a result of the scandal, Hammer’s career suffered significantly. He was dropped from several high-profile projects, including Paramount‘s ‘The Offer‘ and the romantic comedy ‘Shotgun Wedding,’ which had initially cast him opposite Jennifer Lopez. His role in ‘Shotgun Wedding’ was later taken over by Josh Duhamel. Additionally, his marriage to Elizabeth Chambers ended in divorce, finalized last year.
Despite the challenges, Hammer expressed gratitude for the journey, saying that where he is now is “so much better than if none of that would have ever happened.” He also shared his financial struggles, recently posting a video on Instagram where he was selling his truck due to being unable to afford the gas.
The podcast, which Hammer describes as a “chronicling of putting my life back together,” aims to explore various topics and invite guests to share their unique knowledge and experiences. The inaugural episode featured Tom Arnold discussing his experiences with sobriety and childhood sexual abuse.
