The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the murder of Idowu Christiana, a 300-level student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The suspect, identified as Adeleye Ayomide, aged 23, was handed over to the Lagos State Police by the 9 Brigade of the Nigerian Army on September 5, 2024. The announcement was made by Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police, via social media.

Christiana was reportedly abducted by suspected kidnappers on the Ikorodu-Yaba Road in Lagos State on August 19, 2024. Initial demands from the kidnappers included a ransom of N3 million, which was later reduced to N350,000 after negotiations. However, despite the payment, the kidnappers failed to release her.

The Student Union Government president of FUNAAB, Ibrahim Adeyemi, confirmed that Christiana was tragically killed by her abductor. The news of her death has sparked significant reactions from the public and has led to a trending hashtag on social media, #JusticeForChristiana, accumulating over 90,000 posts seeking justice for the deceased.

Following Christiana’s abduction, intelligence operatives made breakthroughs in the investigation, tracing the suspect through banking details linked to the ransom payment. The efforts of law enforcement led to the identification of Adeleye Ayomide, culminating in his arrest today.
