Ashanti And Nelly With Their Baby Son

LOS ANGELES, California — Nearly a year after welcoming their first child, R&B singer Ashanti is ready to expand her family with husband Nelly. In an exclusive interview with E! News, Ashanti expressed her overwhelming joy and desire for another baby, specifically a girl. “We’re going to add some more,” she said. “Definitely a girl to balance it out. I’m outnumbered in the house right now. So, a girl would be great.”

As she gears up for her upcoming film, No Address, set to release on February 28, Ashanti stated that motherhood has profoundly changed her life. “I am feeling amazing, incredibly pleased, humbled. My life has completely changed for the better. I feel full, you know? My cup is full,” she noted.

Ashanti and Nelly, who rekindled their romance in 2023 after over a decade apart, celebrated their love and family milestone with the birth of their son, Kareem Kenkaide (KK), last July. Reflecting on their past, she remarked, “We were together for 11 years off-and-on. We stopped, we hated each other for a good chunk of time. And then we spun the block.” She emphasized the divine timing of their reunion, saying, “I can’t believe these feelings came back.”

In a recent episode of Boss Moves With Rasheeda, Nelly echoed Ashanti’s sentiments, explaining that their relationship revival wasn’t anticipated. “It wasn’t anything that was planned. I think we both were pretty much doing what we do. But sometimes being separate, you understand one another more,” he said. Nelly added, “My goal is to die married. When I made that oath, I’m tellin’ you, death do us part for real.”

As the couple enjoys parenthood, Ashanti also shared her interest in giving back to those in need. She mentioned their plans to support shelters for displaced women and children. “[Now] I’m like, what else can we do? Can we donate? We have tons of clothes. We’re always giving things away,” she explained, highlighting how becoming a mother has increased her empathy towards others.

Ashanti has also hinted at the impact motherhood has had on her acting career. In her upcoming role, she plays a homeless veteran and noted that her son has boosted her compassion. “Having a child magnifies the love and the humility you have for your circumstances,” she said.

While the couple is navigating their new life together, Ashanti remains protective of their son and has yet to share his image publicly. “I just feel like he’s so important to me, and I don’t know if I want to share that,” she explained, reinforcing her desire to keep certain aspects of their family life private.
