Aston Martin Launches DB12: The New Era of Super Tourers

Gaydon, England – Aston Martin has unveiled its latest model, the DB12, a vehicle billed as the world’s first Super Tourer. With a striking ‘Racing Green over Oxford Tan’ color scheme, this new addition promises to redefine luxury sports cars. The DB12’s reveal in May 2023 marked the culmination of a busy time for Aston Martin, filled with both celebratory milestones and financial challenges.
The DB12 replaces the DB11, which was produced for seven years. This model is not just an upgrade but a significant transformation, boasting a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter AMG-derived V8 engine that yields 671 brake horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. This power allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 3.6 seconds, reaching a top speed of 202 mph.
Aston Martin’s forward-thinking approach has led the company to reclassify the DB12 as a Super Tourer, a term created to signify its departure from conventional luxury touring cars. “We believed the DB12 warranted a new definition due to its unique attributes and performance capabilities,” said an Aston Martin representative.
Despite sharing the same chassis and suspension as the DB11, the DB12 features extensive design changes, enhancing its aerodynamic profile. The increased track width—6mm at the front and 22mm at the rear—gives it a more muscular appearance, with significant alterations to the front end, headlights, and the renowned Aston Martin wings badge.
The customization options for the DB12 are vast, allowing buyers to personalize various elements, including color schemes and interior features. Our test vehicle featured a classic combination of Racing Green and tan upholstery, complemented by 21-inch multi-spoke forged wheels finished in satin black.
Among the vehicular enhancements are optional carbon brakes, which improve braking performance and reduce weight by 27 kg compared to standard brakes. Additional features include carbon fiber accents at the front and a panoramic sunroof that floods the cabin with light. Inside, the luxurious materials, including Bridge of Weir hides and dark chrome accents, elevate the overall aesthetic.
One significant improvement over the DB11 is the introduction of a touchscreen interface, which has been well-received for its user-friendly design, although it comes roughly a decade later than similar innovations in other luxury brands.
With an entry price of £185,000 and an equipped model priced at £240,000, the DB12 competes against high-end rivals like the Bentley Continental GT and the Porsche 911 Turbo S. “We’re excited to see how it performs in this competitive market,” the representative added. Consumer response will determine whether the DB12 has truly set a new standard in the luxury performance segment.
As the DB12 rolls out into the market, it represents not just a new model for Aston Martin but a potential shift in the perception of luxury touring vehicles, poised to make a significant impact in its category.
