Astoria’s Tootles & French Named Best New Restaurant in U.S.
ASTORIA, N.Y. — Tootles & French, a wine bar and restaurant in Astoria, Queens, has been named the Best New Restaurant in the United States by USA Today. The honor, announced earlier this week, recognizes the establishment for its “carefully curated selection of wines” and “refined dishes and elegant ambiance” that create a “sophisticated dining experience.”
The restaurant, which opened just over a year ago, was the only Queens-based nominee and topped a list of 20 contenders from across the country. The winners were chosen by a panel of food and travel experts and voted on by readers.
“Are you kidding me?” said Vanessa Massas, who co-owns the restaurant alongside Chad Goldsmith. “I don’t even know what to say. It means the world to me. This is a huge deal, especially after COVID and what the hospitality industry has been going through.”
Located at 36-15 Ditmars Blvd., Tootles & French prides itself on being “by Astorians for Astorians.” The restaurant has already seen an influx of customers drawn in by its nomination and subsequent win.
“We’re a strong community, and any excuse we have to show that is always going to be great,” Goldsmith said. “I think a lot of people just really want to see Queens win and see Astoria win.”
The restaurant’s win highlights the vibrant culture of Ditmars Boulevard, which Massas described as having “a lot of culture, a lot of great things going for it.” The recognition also underscores the resilience of the hospitality industry, which has faced significant challenges in recent years.
