ATP Tour Kickstarts Indoor Events in Almaty, Brussels, and Stockholm
ALMATY, Kazakhstan — The ATP Tour returns to indoor action this week with a tripleheader in Almaty, Brussels, and Stockholm. Top seeds including Karen Khachanov, Lorenzo Musetti, and Holger Rune aim to improve their standings ahead of the Turin finals.
Defending champion Khachanov, currently ranked World No. 10, hopes to shake off a losing streak, having faced early exits in Beijing and Shanghai recently. He won the Almaty title last year and will face tough competition, including former World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev, who looks to maintain momentum after his semi-final appearance in Shanghai.
Two young Italian players, Giulio Cobolli and Luca Darderi, are also in contention. Each has enjoyed a productive season, with Cobolli capturing two titles and Darderi claiming three. As the third and fourth seeds in Almaty, they are eager to break through on indoor surfaces.
Kazakhstani player Alexander Shevchenko will be competing in front of local fans, hoping to leverage home support to improve his 13-18 record for the season. In doubles, the Argentine-French duo of Andreozzi and Guinard are top seeds in Almaty.
In Brussels, Musetti seeks to boost his chances for a spot in the upcoming qualification tournament. He is currently eighth in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin. Felix Auger-Aliassime, the only past champion of this tournament now in Brussels, hopes to make an impact with his indoor success marked by six of his seven titles coming on hard courts.
This year’s Belgian tournament has moved from Antwerp to Brussels after nine years, aiming to crown its first local champion. Brazilian player Thiago Fonseca, stepping into the spotlight after indoor successes, is also set for his ATP 250 debut.
Meanwhile, in Stockholm, Rune is expected to aim for a title defense after his successful run in 2022. He faces stiff competition from fellow Scandinavian Casper Ruud, who also looks to improve his standing in the Live Race.
Pursuing their own success, former champion Denis Shapovalov has returned to the Top 30 and hopes to conclude his 2025 season on a high note.
With exciting matchups lined up, fans can expect thrilling tennis in all three venues as players strive for ATP Tour titles and crucial qualification points this week.
