Attorney Indicted in Cleveland Nurse’s 2013 Murder Case

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Twelve years after Cleveland Clinic nurse Aliza Sherman was brutally stabbed to death, the attorney representing her in her divorce case has been indicted for her murder.
Gregory Moore, 51, faces charges that include one count of aggravated murder, six counts of murder, two counts of kidnapping, and one count of conspiracy. He was arrested by U.S. Marshals earlier today in Austin, Texas.
According to Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley, “The Sherman family has waited over a decade for answers regarding their mother’s homicide. Through the tenacious work of multiple law enforcement agencies, evidence was accumulated that paints the unmistakable picture that Gregory Moore orchestrated and participated in the brutal murder of Aliza Sherman.”
Aliza Sherman, 53, was killed in broad daylight on March 24, 2013, in Downtown Cleveland while walking to her divorce attorney’s office. She was stabbed 11 times as the incident unfolded.
Although the attack was captured on surveillance cameras, no suspect was identified until now. The indictment sheds light on the relationship between Sherman and Moore, revealing text messages that detail events leading up to the attack.
Gregory Nelsen, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Cleveland office, noted: “The successful conclusion of this case highlights the coordinated efforts between the FBI, local law enforcement, and the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office and serves as an important reminder of our commitment to the relentless pursuit of justice for victims and their families.”
In 2021, Cleveland Police sought help from Ohio BCI as they continued to investigate Sherman’s homicide. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost stated, “Since receiving the request in June of 2021 to lead the Aliza Sherman cold case investigation, BCI’s agents have spent thousands of hours applying advanced technology and implementing investigative techniques to help solve this homicide.”
In 2023, Sherman’s daughter, Jennifer, expressed her feelings regarding her mother’s death in an interview, where she shared her journey of finding her voice through a podcast.
