Australian Singer Lewis Apologizes Amid Inappropriate Behavior Allegations
SYDNEY, Australia — Australian singer-songwriter Lewis issued an apology Thursday after allegations surfaced accusing him of inappropriate behavior with female fans.
In recent weeks, several women have come forward, providing screenshots and recordings that reportedly show Lewis sexting and flirting with them over the past decade.
In his statement, Lewis, known for hits like “Waves” and “Be Alright,” acknowledged the allegations. He emphasized, however, that he did not engage in any illegal activities with what he believed to be consenting adults. “I understand why people are angry and disappointed after learning embarrassing details of intimate, private conversations and relationships I’ve had,” he wrote.
Lewis admitted, “I’ve been flirty with adult women of all different ages, in-person, online, and over text.” He expressed remorse for his actions, describing them as “incredibly stupid, insensitive, and embarrassing.”
Addressing the public’s reaction, Lewis described the revelations as an “overdue wake-up call.” He acknowledged the hurt feelings of those involved, stating, “I was breathtakingly dumb texting and flirting in the manner I have over many years.”
He has committed to making significant changes, including entering “intense therapy” to improve his choices and approach to relationships. “I know it’s too much to ask for grace and forgiveness at this moment,” he wrote, vowing to re-earn the trust of those he has disappointed.
