Avalanche Host Mammoth for Season Home Opener at Ball Arena

DENVER, Colorado

The Colorado Avalanche are set to host the Utah Mammoth for their Home Opener on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Ball Arena. The game begins at 7 p.m. MT and will be broadcast on Altitude and Altitude Sports Radio (92.5 FM).

After a strong season opener where the Avalanche defeated the Los Angeles Kings 4-1 on Tuesday, they aim to carry that momentum into their first home game. Martin Necas shined in that match, scoring two goals and assisting on another, while Scott Wedgewood made 24 saves to secure the victory.

In the game against the Kings, Necas started scoring for Colorado just 48 seconds into the second period. Nathan MacKinnon, with two assists, also made history by passing Joe Sakic for the most points in franchise history since the team moved to Colorado, reaching 1,016 career points.

The Avalanche have a solid record in season openers, improving to 8-2-0 under Coach Jared Bednar. Meanwhile, the Utah Mammoth will be opening their season against Colorado, adding another layer of excitement to the matchup.

Looking ahead, the teams will meet three more times this season, including their next matchup on October 21 in Utah. In their previous season, the Avalanche had a 2-1-0 record against the Mammoth.

Joel Kiviranta is anticipated to reach a milestone during Thursday’s game, playing in his 300th NHL match. He has registered 60 points over the course of his previous 299 games.

As the new season unfolds, Avalanche Head Coach Jared Bednar praised his players, stating, “They got more involved and made some nice plays. I thought they did a nice job setting the tone for us offensively.”
