NEW YORK — Stars gathered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the Met Gala on Monday, May 5, 2025. This prestigious event, known for its glamour, raises funds for the Costume Institute and often showcases bold fashion statements.

About 450 guests attended this year’s gala, themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which celebrates black dandyism and its influence on fashion. Co-chairs Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton, and Colman Domingo led the evening’s festivities.

The eagerly awaited dress code, “Made to Measure,” invited attendees to explore tailored fashion inspired by the accompanying exhibit. The exhibition examines the history of black style and aims to honor the cultural significance of black fashion.

R&B star Usher, part of the event’s host committee, remarked, “This year’s theme is timely and speaks to a rich culture that deserves celebration.” The evening was expected to feature a mix of sports, arts, and entertainment icons on the red carpet.

As guests arrived, fashion observers anticipated a variety of interpretations of this year’s theme. Notable attendees included Lizzo, Doja Cat, and Demi Moore, each showcasing distinctive fashion choices that embodied the evening’s spirit.

Pharrell Williams wore a striking blazer adorned with 15,000 pearls, taking 400 hours to create. Anne Hathaway arrived in a custom Carolina Herrera look honoring the late fashion icon Andre Leon Talley, aiming for a glamorous impact.

Guests included Bad Bunny, who stepped onto the red carpet in a classic dark brown tailored suit complemented by a gold-textured tie and brown shirt. His look drew mixed reactions from fashion critics.

Simone Biles, Spike Lee, and other notable figures expressed excitement about the exhibit’s exploration of historical and contemporary black tailoring. The theme reflects a growing recognition of black designers and style influencers in the fashion industry.
