Bandhan Bank Names Partha Pratim Sengupta as New MD & CEO
Bandhan Bank has announced the appointment of Partha Pratim Sengupta as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO). This decision follows the approval granted by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), as confirmed by the approval letter dated October 8, 2024. Sengupta is expected to assume his new role no later than November 10, 2024, as stated in the official communication.
On October 9, 2024, Sengupta accepted the offer, subsequently confirming on October 10 that he would be stepping down from his other engagements to ensure compliance with the RBI’s stipulated terms and conditions, as noted in a media release.
Sengupta brings to his new position almost 40 years of experience in the banking sector, with a diversified background in both retail and corporate banking. He began his career at State Bank of India (SBI), advancing to the position of Deputy Managing Director and Chief Credit Officer. His most recent role prior to this appointment was as the MD & CEO of Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), a position he held until December 2022.
During his extensive career at SBI and IOB, Sengupta was known for leveraging technology and innovation to advance business objectives. His professional journey includes roles as Branch Manager in retail and commercial banking, as well as in Forex and Trade Finance. He has also held significant senior managerial roles, such as that of General Manager of Mid Corporate Banking.
From 2016 to 2018, Sengupta acted as the Chief General Manager of the SBI Kolkata Circle, managing operations across West Bengal, Sikkim, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. His responsibilities as Deputy Managing Director and Chief Credit Officer encompassed chairing the Corporate Centre Credit Committee and participating in several high-level committees, including those dealing with investment, fraud management, and operational risk.
Academically, Sengupta holds a degree in Physics Honours and is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers. He has undergone leadership training at esteemed institutions such as Harvard Business School, IIM Calcutta, and ISB Hyderabad.
