FC Barcelona Sets New Digital Milestone with Threads Platform
FC Barcelona continues to make waves in the digital realm as it forges ahead in bringing fans closer to the club’s day-to-day activities. The latest addition to its digital repertoire, Threads, showcases the club’s pioneering spirit once again.
Barça made its debut on Threads, an Instagram-linked platform, on December 14, coinciding with its launch in Europe. In just over a month, the club has witnessed exponential growth, amassing over six million followers. To put this achievement into perspective, FC Barcelona is the first sports club to reach this milestone, surpassing the likes of Manchester City, PSG, and Manchester United, all of whom are yet to hit the five million mark.
Amongst football accounts, only the Champions League account, with eight million followers, outranks FC Barcelona. However, it’s important to note that the Champions League account has been on the platform since its American launch in July of the previous year. Another noteworthy example is the NBA, which has 6.3 million followers but has also been on Threads since July, giving Barcelona’s achievement special significance. The Champions League, NBA, and FC Barcelona are the only sports accounts to exceed six million followers.
These figures accentuate the club’s dedication to creating captivating digital content. Since establishing the Barça Identity department, FC Barcelona has reinforced its digital channels, leveraging its DNA to bring players closer to fans, attract new audiences, and position its athletes as inspirational figures extending beyond the realm of sports, especially for the younger generation.
