Bbc Apology Amanda Abbington Giovanni Pernice

Amanda Abbington, a renowned actress, recently addressed the BBC‘s investigation into allegations of bullying and harassment by professional dancer Giovanni Pernice. The investigation, which was launched earlier this year, upheld some but not all of Abbington’s complaints against Pernice.

Abbington, best known for her role in the series “Sherlock,” had withdrawn from a BBC show citing a “toxic environment” and alleged experiencing “inappropriate, mean, nasty bullying.” She claimed during an interview with Newsnight‘s Victoria Derbyshire that she endured “hundreds” of death and rape threats and was verbally abused by Pernice, including a reported 35-minute verbal tirade.

The BBC issued an apology to Abbington following the investigation, acknowledging that “some, but not all” allegations were upheld, and recognizing the actress’s bravery in coming forward. The corporation stated that although the original production team took steps to address the issues, these measures were insufficient, prompting the need for further reinforcement of protocols.

Abbington revealed the gravity of the threats extended to her, including credible death threats leading to police involvement. The Metropolitan Police confirmed investigating a death threat sent to the Park Theatre in Finsbury Park, where Abbington was working at the time.

Amidst these unfolding events, Pernice has denied the allegations. His spokesperson expressed disappointment over what they described as Abbington’s “false and defamatory claims,” suggesting her actions aimed at further damaging Pernice’s reputation.

A spokesperson for the BBC acknowledged the challenges Abbington faced and stated, “At the time, although the production team took steps to address the issues as they understood them, ultimately these were not enough. This is why the measures we have taken to further strengthen our existing protocols are so important.”

Abbington indicated the possibility of pursuing further legal action, with unresolved matters remaining from the comprehensive 30-page report produced by the investigation. She is advised by her legal team regarding potential steps forward.
