Beloved Producer Memo del Bosque Passes Away at Age 64

CIUDAD DE MÉXICO — Guillermo “Memo” del Bosque, a revered figure in Mexican television, passed away on April 7, 2025, at the age of 64 following health complications related to cancer. Del Bosque’s death was announced in a heartfelt post on his Instagram account earlier today.
Del Bosque had been hospitalized and battling health issues since March, prompting an outpouring of support from fans and colleagues alike. “My fight against cancer has been a fierce battle, but I am thankful for the time I had to share with my loved ones,” he wrote in his final message.
His wife, Vica Andrade, shared a touching video during his hospitalization, urging followers to remain hopeful and recognize the strength of faith. “The Lord is your shield and strength. He renews your strength and fights your battles. There are no impossibles, just believe,” Andrade posted on social media.
Memo del Bosque was instrumental in shaping the landscape of Mexican television. He began his career in 1993 as the creator of Telehit, a groundbreaking music channel that transformed the way television consumed music and entertainment in Mexico. Among his notable productions are the iconic shows “El Calabozo” (1993) and “No Manches” (2004).
Throughout his career, he produced numerous signature programs that captivated audiences, including “Al Fin de Semana,” hosted by Andrade, and the popular game show “100 Mexicanos Dijeron,” which became a household favorite upon its launch in 2009.
In 2017, del Bosque was diagnosed with lymphoma, undergoing intensive treatment that included chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. By 2020, he announced that he had successfully overcome the illness. However, tributes and recent statements suggested a resurgence of health challenges, prompting his emotional messages of support for others dealing with similar battles.
His passing has left the entertainment industry in mourning, with colleagues and friends remembering him for his creativity and mentorship. Among those who expressed their sadness were prominent figures like Adal Ramones and Eugenio Derbez, who credited him for his early career opportunities.
“Thank you for believing in me and giving me my first break in television,” Ramones reflected in a tribute to the late producer.
Del Bosque’s legacy includes not only the shows he produced but also the many young talents he nurtured throughout his expansive career at Televisa and beyond. Following his departure from Televisa in 2022 after a 30-year tenure, he continued to influence the industry with his innovative approaches.
His contributions have left an indelible mark on the cultural tapestry of Mexico, establishing him as a beloved figure whose memory will linger in the hearts of millions. Memo del Bosque is survived by his wife Vica Andrade and their three children, alongside son Sean from Andrade’s previous marriage.
