Days Gone Remastered Accessibility Features

PORTLAND, Ore. — Bend Studio is highlighting new accessibility features for the upcoming release of Days Gone Remastered, set to launch on PlayStation 5 on April 25, 2025. This update is focused on making the gaming experience more inclusive for all players.

Creative & Product Lead Kevin McAllister shared insights about the expanded accessibility options in a blog post this week. Building on the accessibility foundation laid with the original game, which debuted in April 2019, the studio is looking to enhance player customization as they navigate the post-apocalyptic world.

One of the standout features is vaster subtitle customization. Players can now choose from 11 different colors for subtitles, including options for the speaker’s name, and can mix and match colors. Additional subtitle background options have also been added, allowing players to select from transparent, darkened, light, or black backgrounds.

Another major enhancement is the customizable High Contrast Mode, which aims to improve visibility and navigation by enabling players to adjust colors for heroes, NPCs, and enemies based on the same color palette used for subtitles.

Accessibility settings can be accessed even before starting the game, thanks to an Initial Setup screen that allows players to configure settings before entering the Days Gone Remastered experience. The game’s menu has also been updated to include real-time preview panels that show selected settings.

Audio accessibility options are also new to this remaster. The improved audio mix features UI Narration, which provides audio descriptions for in-game menu options, helping players navigate more easily. Additionally, the Collectible Audio Cues feature sounds notifications when players are near collectible items scattered across the game world.

In terms of gameplay, Days Gone Remastered introduces a Game Speed option that lets players adjust the pace of the game from 100% to as low as 25%. This feature is intended for those who may find fast-paced sequences overwhelming, particularly during intense combat scenarios.

All these new features reflect Bend Studio’s commitment to creating experiences accessible to players of varying abilities. McAllister expressed hope that players will enjoy the updated version of this open-world epic, eagerly anticipating their journeys on the Drifter bike starting April 25.

A patch update will be necessary for existing PC players to take advantage of these new features.
