NEW YORK CITY — Emmy Award-nominated actress Betty Gilpin is stepping into the role of Mary Todd Lincoln in the Broadway farce “Oh, Mary!” This transition follows the departure of original star and playwright Cole Escola, marking a notable shift in the production that has captivated audiences since its transfer uptown last summer.

The show has garnered sold-out performances, enchanting viewers with its humorous portrayal of the First Lady’s aspirations to perform her cabaret act. During an interview on the “On Stage” program, host Frank DiLella discussed the impact of Gilpin’s arrival in the production with the actress and director Sam Pinkleton.

Gilpin, known for her acclaimed performance in Netflix’s “Glow,” expressed excitement about taking on such a unique character. “Mary Todd Lincoln is often seen through a serious lens, but this show offers a refreshing and comedic perspective,” Gilpin stated. “I’m thrilled to bring my own interpretation to this iconic figure.”

The production has received praise for its witty script and lively performances, drawing audiences from around the city. Pinkleton noted, “The energy and commitment of the cast have transformed the narrative into something truly special, and Betty is the perfect fit for this role.”

In addition to Gilpin, the Broadway scene is buzzing with news of other productions. Tony Award-winner Matt Doyle, recognized for his role in “Company,” and Caroline Aaron of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” are joining forces in the new play “Conversations with Mother,” written by Matthew Lombardo. They shared insights about their onstage chemistry and the comedic elements that define their play during a separate segment with DiLella.

Doyle remarked, “Working with Caroline has been a joy; our dynamic really brings out the heart of the story.” Aaron added, “This play feels timely and relatable, and we aim to provide laughter amidst the dance of familial relationships.”

Meanwhile, Joey Fatone, former member of the acclaimed boy band NSYNC, is making waves in the Broadway musical “& Juliet,” a Max Martin jukebox affair that reimagines the story of Romeo and Juliet. In his conversation with DiLella, Fatone discussed how his musical background influenced his performance. “Bringing my pop style to the stage has been an exhilarating challenge,” he noted.

All of these performances highlight the vibrant landscape of Broadway, capturing the passion and creativity artists are known for. As the theater district continues to thrive, these productions stand out for their unique narratives, powerful performances, and comedic brilliance.
