Beyoncé Brings Cowboy Vibes to MetLife Stadium on Tour

East Rutherford, New Jersey — Beyoncé kicked off her highly anticipated “Cowboy Carter” Tour on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium, treating fans to nearly three hours of music that blended pop and country.
Despite the rainy and unusually cold weather, the stadium buzzed with excitement as fans donned cowboy hats, boots, and rain ponchos. As Beyoncé took the stage, she declared, “This ain’t Texas,” yet the atmosphere felt distinctly Southern.
The evening opened with the energetic song “American Requiem,” where Beyoncé remarked on feeling out of place within the genre in the past. “They used to say I spoke ‘too country’ and the rejection came, said I wasn’t ‘country ‘nough,'” she sang, referencing her performance with the Chicks at the 2016 Country Music Association Awards that inspired her latest album.
As the show progressed, Beyoncé moved seamlessly from her “Cowboy Carter” tracks to a powerful rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” followed by “Freedom.” These selections highlighted her commitment to reclaiming the roots of country music.
The 43-year-old artist continued to impress with intimate performances of songs like “Alligator Tears” and “Just for Fun,” including a flamenco dancer during “Flamenco.” A standout moment occurred when she rode a mechanical bull during “Tyrant.” Video screens throughout the venue displayed stunning visuals, such as Beyoncé lighting a cigar with the Statue of Liberty.
Alongside her modern hits, she treated the crowd to nostalgic favorites like “Crazy in Love” and “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).” A singalong erupted during “Irreplaceable,” a song that has been missed on her recent tours.
One of the night’s highlights was Beyoncé’s performance of “Daughter,” where she showcased her classical vocal range with the Italian aria “Caro Mio Ben.” To round out the evening, a dynamic “Renaissance” section featured vibrant dance choreography.
Beyoncé, wearing a white fur coat to guard against the chilly temperatures, proved that while she embraces country music, she firmly maintains her diva status. She will perform four more shows at MetLife Stadium on the weekend and next week.
