Beyoncé Makes History with No. 1 Country Debut for ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’
Beyoncé, the iconic artist known for her groundbreaking music, has once again made history with her latest single ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ debuting at the top spot on Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart.
This achievement solidifies Beyoncé as the first Black female artist to reach No. 1 on this particular country music chart, joining the ranks of only Taylor Swift as a solo female artist who has accomplished such a feat.
Released following its tease in a Verizon commercial during the electrifying Super Bowl LVIII, ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ quickly gained widespread attention and acclaim within the music industry.
The song’s impressive performance includes over 19.2 million official streams, a massive 4.8 million in all-format airplay audience, and an outstanding 39,000 units sold in the U.S. market.
Recently, controversy surrounded Beyoncé’s foray into country music when several radio stations initially declined to play her songs on air, citing genre restrictions.
One such incident was revealed through a tweet where an Oklahoma radio station explicitly stated their decision not to play Beyoncé’s music because they identified as a ‘country’ station.
However, fans across the country swiftly mobilized to advocate for Beyoncé’s music, flooding radio stations with requests and demands to hear her latest releases.
In response to the overwhelming support, KYKC General Manager Roger Harris confirmed that after receiving numerous calls, emails, and requests, he located ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ and agreed to air the song on the station.
Alongside ‘Texas Hold ‘Em,’ Beyoncé’s second country single ’16 Carriages’ also made its mark on the charts, debuting at an impressive No. 9 position within the Hot Country Songs chart.
As Beyoncé continues to break barriers and redefine genres, her upcoming album ‘Act II‘ following the highly successful Renaissance World Tour is highly anticipated among fans and music enthusiasts alike.
