Bill Burr’s Controversial Remarks Spark Outrage Among Left and Right

LOS ANGELES, CA – Popular comedian Bill Burr has ignited a firestorm of outrage following his remarks about billionaires on a recent episode of his podcast. During the show, which aired on February 21, 2025, Burr stated that wealthy Americans should be ‘put down like f***ing dogs.’ His comments have drawn criticism from various political commentators and sparked discussions about the escalating tone in American political discourse.
‘I’m so tired of hearing about people going to bed worried about what’s going to happen next week,’ Burr expressed during the episode. ‘There is so much f***ing money in this country. These f***ing billionaires … they need to be put down like f***ing rabid dogs. They’re like rabid with f***ing greed and just going out and dividing everybody.’
While Burr’s comments were made in the context of political satire, many have interpreted them as calls for violence against successful individuals. Progressive figures such as Hasan Piker praised Burr’s remarks, further entrenching the divisive rhetoric surrounding billionaires and wealth disparity in the United States.
Critics have noted the irony of Burr, a successful comedian himself, calling for violence against the wealthy while standing on a platform of financial success. ‘Is he living out his values and donating the bulk of his millions to help people?’ one critic questioned. ‘And are struggling people justified if they want to see him put to the guillotine?’
Discussions surrounding the vilification of billionaires are not new within leftist circles. However, critics argue that calling for violence crosses a moral line. ‘To want to murder Americans for the “crime” of being successful is genuinely vile and unhinged,’ pointed out another commentator.
This incident coincides with a broader trend of escalating political violence and vitriol among both the left and right in the United States. Recently, a healthcare CEO was murdered amid a climate of political strife, which some media figures celebrated, while left-wing influencers have openly called for violence against former President Donald Trump.
Social media platforms have amplified these sentiments, with viral content suggesting followers emulate historical assassins. In one instance, a TikTok influencer urged viewers to follow in the footsteps of John Wilkes Booth, prompting serious concerns about the impact of such rhetoric on young audiences.
Amid these growing concerns, independent journalist Brad Polumbo emphasizes the dangers of using violence as a political tool. ‘A society where people resort to violence to settle their political and ideological disagreements is one that is on the express train to chaos, dissolution, and maybe even civil war,’ he stated. ‘If we want to avoid that catastrophic destination, Americans must see their fellow citizens as human again and remember that in this country, we settle our differences with dialogue, not bullets.’
