Billie Eilish Wins Oscar For Best Song On Barbie Soundtrack

Billie Eilish and her brother, Finneas O’Connell, have secured the coveted Oscar for best song at the Academy Awards with their track ‘What Was I Made For?’ featured in the Barbie movie soundtrack.

The winning song triumphed over strong contenders such as ‘I’m Just Ken,’ composed by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt and sung by Ryan Gosling. Other competing songs included ‘Wahzhazhe’ from ‘Killers of the Flower Moon‘ and ‘It Never Went Away‘ from the documentary ‘American Symphony.’

‘What Was I Made For?’ achieved significant success, reaching No. 1 in the UK and Australia, and hitting No. 14 on the US charts. The song accompanies a poignant scene in the Barbie film where Margot Robbie, portraying Barbie, encounters the ghost of her creator, Ruth Handler, played by Rhea Perlman.

In her acceptance speech, Eilish expressed gratitude for the award, dedicating it to all those impacted by the movie. She also thanked her best friend, Zoe, for sharing Barbie playtime memories and acknowledged two music teachers, one of whom she humorously noted didn’t like her but was undoubtedly good at their job.
