Billy Bob Thornton Talks Commitment to Landman Season 2

Fort Worth, Texas — Billy Bob Thornton is back for Season 2 of the Paramount+ series Landman, and he’s here to stay. In a recent interview with Gold Derby, the Academy Award-winning actor shared his enthusiasm about reprising the role of Tommy Norris and working alongside Western icon Sam Elliott.
When asked if he plans to continue in the series, Thornton expressed his unwavering commitment. “Absolutely,” he said. “I told Taylor, I said, ‘As long as you want me around, I’m here for this.’” His promise to the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, reflects his dedication to the role, given his history of choosing high-profile projects.
Thornton humorously added, “I’ll be around as long as they want me and as long as I’m able,” joking about potentially ending up like Peter Boyle’s character in Everybody Loves Raymond. Fans are still reeling from the intense Season 1 finale, where Norris faced brutal torture at the hands of cartel members.
Reflecting on how he approached such a harrowing scene, Thornton said, “I’ve had a lot of life experience. I’ve been around some pretty weird things, so you just kind of draw on those.”
In exciting news for Season 2, another major star has joined the cast, although details about the character remain under wraps. For Thornton, this addition is special as it marks a reunion with someone he deeply admires. “[Elliott’s] always been a mentor and a hero of mine,” he noted. “I love the guy; we have a real special relationship in real life anyway.”
Though Elliott has not filmed extensively yet, Thornton commented, “It’s so good to see him. He lights my day up.” Production for Landman Season 2 is currently in progress in Texas, with a premiere date set for November 17, 2024. Meanwhile, the first season of Landman is available for streaming on Paramount+.
