Billy Joel Concert Health Announcement

NEW YORK, NY – Billy Joel announced on May 23 that he is canceling all upcoming concerts due to a recent diagnosis of normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), which has caused significant health issues.

The 76-year-old singer revealed that his condition has worsened with recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance. He shared this information via a statement on his social media accounts.

“Under my doctor’s instructions, I am undergoing specific physical therapy and have been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period,” Joel said. He expressed gratitude for the excellent care he is receiving and the support from his fans.

Joel emphasized the importance of prioritizing his health, stating, “I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding.” His team confirmed that ticket refunds will be processed automatically for all canceled performances.

The canceled concerts include shows in cities like New Orleans, Toronto, Salt Lake City, and Liverpool. He had several concerts planned throughout the summer and fall, alongside notable artists like Sting and Rod Stewart.

This announcement follows an incident in February during a concert at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, where Joel stumbled and fell on stage. He quickly recovered and finished the performance, but it raised concerns about his health.

Normal pressure hydrocephalus is a condition that occurs when cerebrospinal fluid builds up in the skull. Symptoms may resemble dementia, but the condition can often be treated with surgery. Joel’s announcement has drawn concern from fans and industry peers alike, as he is known for his energetic performances.

Joel expressed hope for a full recovery and a return to the stage in the future, stating, “I look forward to the day when I can once again take the stage and share the joy of live music with our amazing fans.” His last concert at Madison Square Garden took place in July 2024, closing a record-breaking residency.
