Billy Joel Postpones Eight Concerts Due to Health Reasons

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Billy Joel has postponed eight of his upcoming stadium concerts scheduled through July, citing a medical condition and recovery from surgery. The announcement came Tuesday morning, emphasizing that Joel’s health must take precedence while he undergoes doctor-supervised physical therapy.
The 74-year-old musician is expected to fully recover, with tour dates now set to resume at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on July 5, 2025. According to his team, the rescheduling for concerts in cities like Detroit, Toronto, Syracuse, Salt Lake City, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Charlotte, and Milwaukee allows Joel the necessary time to heal and rehabilitate.
“While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first,” Joel said in a statement. “I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding.”
The new dates include a Detroit performance with Stevie Nicks on November 15, 2025, and a Toronto concert that will shift from this March to March 14, 2026. Additional rescheduled shows feature Billy Joel co-billing with Sting in Syracuse on April 10, 2026, Salt Lake City on May 22, 2026, and Charlotte on July 3, 2026. The precise date for the Milwaukee concert will be announced later.
Joel’s last performance prior to this hiatus was on February 22 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. His next scheduled concert in Charlotte was initially set for May 10, 2025.
The postponements impact notable performances such as those in the U.K.; the concerts in Edinburgh and Liverpool will now take place in June 2026. Joel, one of the top-selling artists of all time with over 160 million records sold, has a catalog that includes iconic hits like “Piano Man,” which was preserved by the Library of Congress last year for its cultural significance.
Looking ahead, Joel and Sting’s collaborative concerts promise an impressive fan experience as they perform their greatest hits. Sting is currently on his own “Sting 3.0” world tour, featuring his latest single, “I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart).”
