India and Zimbabwe clashed in the first T20 International match at the Harare Sports Club, where the visitors chose to bowl first after winning the toss. The Indian captain, Shubman Gill, led his team onto the pitch with a fresh line-up, featuring new faces Abhishek Sharma, Dhruv Jurel, and Riyan Parag, who were making their T20I debut.

The match marked a significant transformation for India in the shortest format of the game. This comes after the retirement of stalwarts like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja following India’s T20 World Cup victory in Barbados last month.

Early in the Zimbabwe innings, it was Mukesh Kumar who struck first by sending Innocent Kaia back to the pavilion in just the second over. Ravi Bishnoi then followed up with crucial wickets of Brian Bennett and Wessly Madhevere, putting Zimbabwe in a tight spot.

With Zimbabwe quickly losing five wickets under the pressure from the Indian bowlers, the home side faced an uphill battle to recover and post a competitive total against India in the 1st T20I encounter.
