LOS ANGELES, California — A sequel to the cult favorite comedy series “Blue Mountain State” is progressing toward a greenlight, with production set to resume at Prime Video. The expected sequel follows the original series that aired on Spike TV from 2010 to 2011 and promises to retain the beloved characteristics that made the original show a hit.

Amber Ritchson, who played the inspiring team captain Kevin “Thad” Castle, is set to reprise his role in the sequel while also serving as executive producer. According to sources, development has been fast-tracked and is approaching completion, with an official greenlight from Amazon projected within the next couple of months.

“We’re actually setting it up with Amazon,” Ritchson announced at a press conference held during the Daytona 500 this past Sunday. “We are going to make a fourth season happen; I’m trying to work it into my schedule. Honestly, I think it’s going to be the best season of “BMS” we’ve ever had. It is so damn funny, and it’s perfect, the way we resurrect the characters and bring them into the way that things are now.”

This announcement comes after Amazon’s significant investment in Ritchson, who is a prominent figure on their roster, especially due to the success of the series “Reacher.” Sources indicate that Ritchson’s influence and talent were a driving factor in Amazon preemptively acquiring “Blue Mountain State” last spring, demonstrating the company’s intent to leverage his appeal.

Moreover, co-leads Darin Brooks (Alex Moran) and Chris Romano (Sammy Cacciatore) are also expected to return for the new installment. Fans of the series can anticipate both the nostalgia and new adventures as the original creators, Chris Romano and Eric Falconer, are reportedly involved in the sequel as well.

The original series, centered on a fictitious university and its football team, the Mountain Goats, chronicled the chaotic lives of three freshmen navigating college life filled with football, romance, academics, and hazing. After three successful seasons, the show continued to gain traction on streaming platforms like Netflix, solidifying its cult status.

A follow-up film titled “Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland” was released in 2016, funded through a Kickstarter campaign, featuring several original cast members. The reunion of the cast and crew for the new project offers a sense of continuity that fans have been eagerly awaiting.

As the countdown begins for the anticipated greenlight from Amazon, excitement continues to build among fans. With a promise of humor, nostalgia, and beloved characters, the sequel could generate significant buzz in the entertainment industry.
