Blues Acquire Calle Rosen from Capitals in Minor League Trade
ST. LOUIS, MO – The St. Louis Blues have acquired defenseman Calle Rosen from the Washington Capitals in a trade for defenseman Corey Schueneman, announced today by Blues President of Hockey Operations Doug Armstrong. Rosen will report to the Blues’ AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds.
At 31 years old, Rosen has been a standout with the Capitals’ AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears, where he tallied seven points, including one goal and six assists, in just nine games this season. The native of Vaxjo, Sweden, has accumulated 198 points (36 goals, 162 assists) during his 360-game AHL career. Rosen has also played in portions of six NHL seasons, including three with the Blues from 2021 to 2024.
In the 2022-23 season, Rosen achieved a career-high 18 points in 49 games with St. Louis, scoring eight goals and registering ten assists. Over his time with the Blues, he participated in 73 games and recorded 26 points while maintaining a +16 rating.
Meanwhile, the Capitals have added Schueneman, who is 30 years old and has played this season with the Springfield Thunderbirds, scoring six points from one goal and five assists in nine games. Schueneman is also experienced in the NHL, having played 35 games in total for the Blues and the Montreal Canadiens, where he accumulated six points (2 goals, 4 assists) in his appearances.
As part of this overhaul, the Thunderbirds have traded forward Sam Bitten to the Hershey Bears for future considerations. Bitten, 25, has struggled so far this season, failing to score in his four games played.
The trade signifies a strategic move by both teams to enhance their AHL rosters early this season, aiming to improve player development and address their organizational needs as they move forward.
