2024 BOA Grand National Championships Sets New Records with Largest Participation in History
The 2024 Bands of America Grand National Championships, presented by Yamaha, is underway at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, marking a historic milestone with the largest participation in its history. This year, the event has drawn an unprecedented 113 bands from across the country, featuring over 15,000 students from 20 states[2].
The championships, which began on November 14 and will conclude on November 16, include preliminary performances split over two days, followed by semi-finals and finals on the final day. The semi-finals will narrow down the competition to the top 12 highest-scoring bands, which will then compete in the evening finals starting at 7:00 PM on Saturday, November 16[2].
Participants and spectators alike are praising the event for its enriching experiences. James Stephens from Music For All highlighted that competing in these championships helps students develop valuable skills such as tenacity and teamwork, which benefit them beyond their musical careers. Samara Spoonemore from Nicholas County, Kentucky, emphasized the importance of teamwork, communication, and time management skills learned through this experience.
In addition to the competitive performances, the event features special exhibition performances by notable marching bands, including the Missouri State University Pride Marching Band, The Ohio State University Marching Band, and the University of Michigan Marching Band. The Grand National Championships also include an Expo and the Grand National Leadership Blast, providing a comprehensive experience for attendees.
Lucas Oil Stadium, a cashless venue, has implemented various measures to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all, including cash-to-card kiosks and strict security protocols. Fans are advised to arrive early to avoid congestion at the gates[3][5]).
