The body of a 21-year-old student, Alexandra Martine Diengo Lumbayi, has been discovered near the marina on Saint-Quentin Island in Trois-Rivières, Quebec. Lumbayi, originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, was reported missing last week. The university student was last seen on October 2 on the island.

According to local authorities, a kayaker discovered Lumbayi’s body in the St. Maurice River at approximately 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday. The discovery occurred in the waters situated between the property of Kruger Wayagamack Inc. and the marina.

Radio-Canada has reported that the coroner confirmed Lumbayi’s identity later that Tuesday afternoon. Her disappearance was initially brought to attention by her mother, Rosemine Ndjondo, who resides in Kinshasa. Ndjondo had not been able to contact her daughter for several days, prompting her to alert authorities. She also took to TikTok over the weekend, posting an emotional plea for assistance and raising awareness about Lumbayi’s disappearance.

“I haven’t been drinking, I’m not eating, I’m not sleeping. I don’t even know how to close my eyes anymore or how to live,” Ndjondo said tearfully in the video.

The provincial police have been at the forefront of the search efforts since Friday and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Lumbayi’s death. The search efforts were bolstered by volunteers from the Congolese, Cameroonian, and Senegalese communities, as well as fellow students, who joined in the search activities over the weekend and were present on the island on Tuesday morning.
