Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty Shines in Victory Over Washington State
BOISE, Idaho — In a commanding performance, Boise State‘s running back Ashton Jeanty led his team to a 45-24 victory over Washington State on Saturday night. Playing at Albertsons Stadium, Jeanty rushed for 259 yards and scored four touchdowns, marking the Broncos’ first game as a ranked team since 2020.
This crucial win pushed Boise State to a 3-1 record and further solidified Jeanty’s status as one of the leading running backs in the nation. Jeanty wasted no time setting the tone for the game, with a 64-yard touchdown run on Boise State’s fifth play, showcasing his ability to break tackles and outpace defenders.
“He was relentless,” remarked Spencer Danielson, Boise State’s coach, about Jeanty’s performance. “When your best players are your hardest workers, you’ve always got a shot.” Jeanty has now accumulated 845 yards on 82 carries and 13 touchdowns for the season.
On the opposing side, Washington State, which now holds a 4-1 record, found difficulty in mounting an effective ground game. The Cougars’ head coach Jake Dickert acknowledged the challenge, stating, “Jeanty was incredible. Ten yards a carry. Obviously you’ve got to hold him to less than that if you want to win the football game.”
Washington State’s quarterback John Mateer threw for 327 yards, achieving two touchdowns during the game. Despite their efforts, the Cougars were unable to clinch a lead, with Boise State pulling away decisively in the fourth quarter.
Boise State quarterback Maddux Madsen contributed to the victory with 184 passing yards and two touchdown connections. Notably, Matt Lauter was a key target, recording 96 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The defensive efforts of Boise State were equally impressive, as they managed to amass seven sacks, resulting in a notable 67 yards lost for Washington State.
