Shah Rukh Khan Kajol Ddlj Bronze Statue Leicester Square

London, England – After five years of planning, Bollywood icons Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol will be immortalized in bronze this spring, as their classic film “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” (DDLJ) becomes the first Indian film honored at London’s “Scenes in the Square” movie trail. The bronze statue, depicting the two megastars in a memorable pose from the 1995 romantic comedy, marks the start of DDLJ’s 30th anniversary celebrations and will be situated on the eastern terrace outside the Odeon cinema, an area featured prominently in the film.

“It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to add Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol to our trail; they are titans of international cinema,” said Mark Williams, deputy chief executive at Heart of London Business Alliance. “The statue is a fitting tribute to the global popularity of Bollywood and a celebration of London’s rich diversity.”

DDLJ, which follows the romance between two non-resident Indians across Europe and India, is celebrated for its cultural impact and enduring popularity. Akshaye Widhani, CEO of Yash Raj Films, expressed pride in the film being the first Indian title represented in the “Scenes in the Square.” “We’re thrilled to commemorate this milestone, as DDLJ has spread love and joy globally,” he said.

Alongside the statue, musical theater adaptation “Come Fall In Love – The DDLJ Musical” is set to premiere at the Manchester Opera House on May 29, further celebrating the film’s legacy.

In a parallel development for Indian cinema, Bodhitree Multimedia recently announced a significant partnership with the government of Assam, establishing a Global Media and Cultural Hub in Guwahati. The deal, valued at INR 5 billion (approximately $58 million), aims to create a vibrant center for film and cultural activities, transforming the northeastern city into an entertainment destination.

Mautik Tolia, CEO of Bodhitree Multimedia, highlighted the initiative’s intent to attract international studios with state-of-the-art facilities. “This will significantly boost entertainment tourism in the region,” he said. The development will include a Media City, luxury wellness resort, and an immersive India Pavilion showcasing the country’s diverse cultural landscape.

Meanwhile, Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, announced that the mythological epic “Kannappa” is set for worldwide release on June 27. The project, led by actor-producer Mohan Babu and featuring a star-studded cast, aims to contribute to the film’s cultural significance.

“Meeting Hon’ble CM Yogi Adityanath ji was a moment of immense honor,” said Vishnu Manchu, the film’s lead. “He understood that ‘Kannappa’ isn’t just a story; it’s a cultural resurrection.”

Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, the film explores the journey of a legendary devotee of Hindu God Shiva, featuring prominent actors including Mohanlal, Akshay Kumar, Prabhas, and Kajal Aggarwal.
