Bomb Threat Prompts Evacuation at Cal State Long Beach Library
Authorities evacuated the library and an adjacent building at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) on Thursday afternoon following a bomb threat. The incident occurred shortly after 1:35 p.m. when a university employee received a call stating, “There’s a bomb in the library,” according to CSULB police Lt. Carol Almaguer.
The caller dialed one of the university’s general numbers, and the threat was described as “vague” with no specific individual or group targeted. Police officers assisted in evacuating five people from the library. By 2:45 p.m., the university issued an alert through its campus notification system, advising those inside the library and the adjoining Academic Services building to leave immediately. Others on campus were told to avoid the area until further notice.
Three police dogs were brought to the scene to conduct a thorough search of the library, a process expected to take at least an hour and a half. The university is currently in its winter session, which runs through Jan. 17, with most students set to return for classes on Jan. 21.
No additional details about the caller or the investigation have been released. The university has not reported any injuries or suspicious items found as of the latest update.
