Bombay High Court Dismisses CBI’s Plea to Stay Netflix Docuseries on Indrani Mukerjea Case
The Bombay High Court has made a ruling on the CBI‘s attempt to halt the release of a Netflix docuseries centered on the infamous Indrani Mukerjea case involving the murder of Sheena Bora. The court dismissed the petition, allowing the series to proceed without obstruction.
Last week, the court had issued a temporary stay on the docuseries pending further review. Following a special screening for the CBI, the court determined that the content did not prejudice the ongoing trial as claimed by the prosecuting agency.
Representatives from both sides presented their arguments during the hearing. The CBI, including Devang Vyas and Shreeram Shirsat, expressed concerns about potential witness influence, while Ravi Kadam defended Netflix’s right to release the series without pre-censorship.
Abhinav Chandrachud, representing the documentary makers, referenced a past case involving Sunil Baghel and the State of Maharashtra to support their stance on freedom of expression.
The docuseries, helmed by directors Shaana Levy and Uraaz Bahl, delves into the complexities of the Mukerjea case and its legal implications.
