Borderlands Movie Faces Harsh Criticism Ahead of Release
The upcoming Borderlands movie is already facing a barrage of negative reviews just a day before its official release. Directed by Eli Roth and featuring big names like Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, and Jamie Lee Curtis, the film has not managed to impress critics.
As of now, the movie’s score on Rotten Tomatoes is an embarrassing 3%. Most reviews are not just critical; they are downright brutal, highlighting issues with the film’s pacing, dialogue, and characters.
Interestingly, early screenings didn’t even generate excitement among the audience. Reports indicated that even in a venue known for its enthusiastic crowds, such as Alamo Drafthouse, people weren’t donning cosplay costumes, and the atmosphere was oddly quiet.
Cate Blanchett, who plays the character Lilith, delivers a lackluster performance, failing to bring the energetic vibe the character deserves. Critics noted that instead of the fun atmosphere typical of the Borderlands games, the film presents a linear and straightforward plot that leaves little to be excited about.
Kevin Hart as Roland and Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina also faced criticism for their portrayals. Many found the dialogue to be poorly written, lacking the charm and humor that fans expected from a Borderlands adaptation.
The film’s visual style is another point of contention. While it aims for a vibrant, comic book-like aesthetic, many scenes have been described as a chaotic mix of CGI that fails to deliver the immersive experience fans of the game crave.
With such low expectations going into its premiere, the Borderlands movie seems destined to join the ranks of the worst video game adaptations ever made. Critics wondered why the project, given its star power and source material, couldn’t manage to capture even a fraction of what made the games popular.
