Brad Pitt Accuses Angelina Jolie of Withholding Critical Emails in $500 Million Winery Dispute
The ongoing legal battle between Hollywood stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie has taken a new turn, with Pitt accusing Jolie of withholding hundreds of emails related to the sale of their $500 million French winery, Chateau Miraval. According to court documents, Pitt’s legal team alleges that Jolie intentionally withheld these emails to suppress the truth about the controversial sale of the winery to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler.
The dispute began after the couple’s divorce in 2016, when Pitt claims Jolie sold her stake in the winery without his knowledge or consent. Initially, Jolie had expressed her desire to exit the wine business, leading Pitt’s team to negotiate a buyout offer of $54.4 million for her stake, to be paid over six years. However, Jolie ultimately sold her share to Shefler for $64 million, bypassing Pitt’s offer and prompting him to challenge the legality of the sale.
Pitt’s legal team has accused Jolie of claiming attorney-client privilege to withhold hundreds of emails exchanged with her inner circle, including her business manager, image consultants, wine consultant, finance consultants, and personal assistants. However, 126 of these emails were between non-lawyers and should not be protected by such privilege, according to Pitt’s team. They argue that Jolie’s assertion of privilege is “wildly overbroad” and unsupported by law, and that it constitutes a “near-complete cover-up” of critical information.
The legal team has urged the court to compel Jolie to produce the withheld communications and to nullify the deal with Shefler. The future of the winery and its ownership remains uncertain as the legal battle continues.
