George Gountas Pedro Pascal Lookalike Contest

Brooklyn, NY – George Gountas, a 42-year-old lighting designer for The Daily Show, became an overnight sensation after winning a lookalike contest on June 15, 2025. The contest, hosted by Son Del North Mexican restaurant in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, aimed to challenge the opinion of Pedro Pascal on New York’s Mexican food scene.

Gountas, who has often been told he resembles the rising star of ‘The Last of Us’, entered the contest with encouragement from his wife and colleagues at The Daily Show. The grand prize included burritos for a year, $50 cash, and bragging rights. The event drew hundreds of attendees who immediately recognized Gountas as the standout impersonator.

“It was clear to everyone in attendance that he was the winner,” said a local fan. “I mean, he could be Pascal’s twin!” Gountas later learned that Pascal himself reacted positively to the contest, sharing his approval on social media.

In an exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gountas reflected on the surreal experience. “I’ve been told I look like Pedro since he was on Game of Thrones,” he explained. “My family has even received pictures of Pascal from friends trying to point out the resemblance.”

Gountas revealed that he was initially hesitant to enter but was persuaded by The Daily Show staff. “One of the stage managers found the ad for the contest and encouraged me to join,” he said. “Once I showed it to my wife, it was game on.”

The contest highlights a moment of joyful chaos as the event saw over a thousand fans crowd the streets outside the restaurant. “It was unbelievable,” said Gountas. “Cars were honking, and my kids wanted to join the fun. I just walked up and signed up, without a ticket.”

Now that he’s won, Gountas awaits a possible appearance from Pascal on The Daily Show. “He hasn’t come by since I joined the team in 2018, but I feel that will change soon,” said Gountas, confidently.

After sharing the news of his victory, Gountas expressed gratitude to everyone who supported him. “It’s been a wild ride,” he added. “I can’t wait to enjoy those burritos.”
