Rachel Brosnahan As Lois Lane Superhero

LOS ANGELES, CA — Rachel Brosnahan, known for her role in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” has spoken out against actors who disparage their past superhero films. In a recent interview with Amanda Seyfried, she emphasized the importance of taking ownership of one’s work, regardless of its reception.

The discussion unfolded as Brosnahan prepares for her role as Lois Lane in James Gunn‘s upcoming Superman film, set to release on July 11, 2025. Referring to actors who disparage their superhero roles, Brosnahan said, “I don’t know why people say yes only to then turn around and complain about it. Do it or don’t do it, and then stand by it.”

Seyfried had noted the passion actors bring to superhero films, prompting Brosnahan’s comments about a trend where some actors feel it is acceptable to criticize their projects after they fail to resonate with audiences. Brosnahan added, “There was a minute where it was cool to not like superhero movies and look back on projects like this and pooh-pooh them.”

Her remarks seem timely, as other actors, including Dakota Johnson, have also expressed dissatisfaction with their roles in superhero films. Johnson described her experience in “Madame Web,” saying it was a learning curve and discussing how film changes can leave actors feeling disconnected from their work.

Similarly, Sydney Sweeney humorously addressed her part in “Madame Web” on Saturday Night Live, stating, “You definitely did not see me in Madame Web.” Christian Bale has also spoken critically of his experience filming “Thor: Love and Thunder,” characterizing it as monotonous due to the extensive use of green screens.

While Brosnahan encouraged fellow actors to support their projects, she recognized that productions occasionally shift during filming, leaving cast members feeling at odds with their roles. Brosnahan’s Superman is much anticipated, promising a new take on the iconic character as he navigates life as both Clark Kent and a superhero.
