Browns Commit to Dillon Gabriel Despite Loss to Jets
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel will remain the starter after the team’s narrow 27-20 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday.
“Yeah, we’re going to stick with Dillon,” Stefanski said. “We have to play better as an offense, we have to coach better, all the above.” Gabriel’s development remains a priority for the team’s management, despite pressure from an impatient fan base.
In the aftermath of the game, which took place at MetLife Stadium, the Browns struggled with special teams mistakes that allowed the Jets to score twice. Stefanski expressed dissatisfaction with his team’s performance but emphasized the importance of supporting Gabriel. “Five games is simply not enough time to evaluate a rookie quarterback,” he said.
Quarterback Daniel Jones shared enthusiasm about the Browns’ prospects, particularly with the recent addition of All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner. “It’s about confidence,” Jones said. “Obviously, that’s a good thing.”
Myles Garrett also weighed in after the game, addressing the mental error made by his teammate Cam Thomas, who jumped offsides on a critical fourth down. “I don’t want my guy Cam to lose confidence,” he said. “There are plenty of frustrating things to go around.” The Browns now find themselves at 2-7, with little left to play for this season.
Stefanski highlighted the need for a team effort moving forward, stating, “We’ll win as a team, we’ll lose as a team.” With the Ravens coming to town next Sunday, the focus is on fulfilling their potential, even amid adversity.
