Bts Members During Military Service

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — HYBE CEO Lee Jae Sang recently addressed fans’ anticipation regarding BTS‘s return, stating that although the members are set to complete their military service by June 2025, a full comeback will take time. Speaking at a press conference on March 31, Lee clarified the band’s preparation process and the factors influencing their return, emphasizing the need for a thoughtful approach.

Currently, five members of BTS, including Suga, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, are fulfilling their mandatory military duties. Their discharge dates are aligned for June, leading to heightened expectations from fans eager for the group’s reunion. Lee noted, “The BTS members are set to complete their military service by the end of the first half of this year, and they will need time for preparation and production before resuming activities.” He added that discussions with top-tier composers are ongoing but the artists themselves require ample time for deliberation.

Explaining the complexities of a K-pop comeback, Lee stated, “Typically, the process involves working on songs, releasing an album, and then going on tour. However, since BTS has reached global superstar status, the discussions regarding their next phase are crucial. We need to consider and align with this direction carefully.” With fans awaiting news of a world tour and new music, the timeline remains uncertain.

BTS has been on hiatus since June 2022, allowing members to focus on solo projects and fulfill military obligations. Jin, the oldest member, first enlisted in December 2022 and was discharged in June 2024. J-Hope joined the military in April 2023 and completed his service in October 2024, while Suga began his service as a social service agent due to a shoulder injury on September 22, 2023. He is expected to complete his duties shortly after his bandmates in June 2025.

Each member has made strides in their solo careers before enlisting. RM released his solo album Indigo, Jimin debuted with Face, V with Layover, and Jungkook made waves with his album Golden, featuring hits like “Seven” and “3D.” The dynamics of their group activities are compounded by BTS’s extraordinary level of fame, necessitating strategic planning for their return.

As fans continue to express eagerness for the group’s reunion, Lee concluded, “The details of the world tour will only be decided after the group’s musical comeback. A tour date is typically set after an artist finalizes their music. Our discussions must align with the members’ vision and the new strategies we want to implement moving forward.” With military service nearing its end, the music world holds its breath for what comes next for BTS.
