Bulldogs Clinch Victory, Dragons Face Health Scare

The Canterbury Bulldogs had a fantastic night at Kogarah Oval on Saturday, securing a solid 28-10 victory over the Dragons, which brings them closer to a coveted spot in the top four.

This win marks the Bulldogs’ 12th victory of the season, a big improvement from last year’s seven wins, likely ensuring their first finals appearance since 2016.

However, the night wasn’t without its scares. Dragons prop Hame Sele was taken to St George Hospital after experiencing chest pains and was found to have an irregular heartbeat. It raised concerns among fans and players alike.

Greg Alexander from Fox League commented on the seriousness of the situation, acknowledging that an irregular heartbeat is not something players usually deal with during a match.

The Bulldogs kicked things off early with Matt Burton intercepting a Ben Hunt pass and sprinting 80 meters to score in just the fourth minute. Burton didn’t stop there; he added a penalty goal shortly after.

The Dragons weren’t ready to give up, with Hunt making up for his earlier mistake by setting up Zac Lomax for a try in the 23rd minute. This was part of an exciting back-and-forth game that kept the fans on the edge of their seats.

Canterbury quickly responded, with two quick tries from Bronson Xerri, both assisted by Toby Sexton, making the crowd roar in approval.

Just before halftime, Dragons backrower Luciano Leilua made a great play, allowing Tyrell Sloan to score and keep the Dragons hopeful.

The second half saw Kurt Mann crashing over for a try next to the posts, solidifying the Bulldogs’ lead.

Despite the electric atmosphere, which drew a crowd of 18,416, the Dragons struggled to gain momentum as key players like Ben Hunt had an off night.

Adding to the Dragons’ woes, strike center Moses Suli had to leave the field late in the game with a knee injury, raising concerns for next week’s match.

Toby Sexton proved to be a key player for the Bulldogs, assisting in two important tries and helping spark their attack since joining the team.

As the Bulldogs secured their position in the standings, Reed Mahoney‘s shoulder injury came as a setback that could impact their upcoming games.

Despite these challenges, the Bulldogs displayed strong defensive capabilities, keeping the Dragons scoreless in the second half.
