Bulls’ Matas Buzelis Eyes Most Improved Player Award
CHICAGO, Illinois — Chicago Bulls forward Matas Buzelis is aiming to make his mark this season, targeting the NBA’s Most Improved Player award. After being drafted 11th overall in 2024, expectations were high for Buzelis, who showed promise by playing 80 games last season.
Although Buzelis earned recognition as a Rookie of the Year candidate, finishing seventh, he aims to elevate his game further. “Individually, I want to win Most Improved Player,” he stated. His ambition is not solely about personal recognition; he wants to contribute significantly to the Bulls’ success.
As the 2025-2026 season opens, Buzelis holds the third-best odds for the award at +1200, trailing only Bennedict Mathurin of the Indiana Pacers and Amen Thomson of the Houston Rockets. Alongside his teammate, Josh Giddey, Buzelis is eager to prove himself despite being in just his second year.
In his rookie season, Buzelis averaged 8.6 points, shooting 45 percent from the field and 36 percent from three-point range. The young forward logged 18.9 minutes per game and contributed 3.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists. During the Bulls’ first game this season, he took on a greater role, totaling 21 points, six rebounds, one assist, and three blocks in a win against the Detroit Pistons.
Buzelis’s ambitions extend beyond personal accolades. “As a team, I want to win a championship — plain and simple,” he said. His determination highlights both his individual goals and the importance of team success.
Despite the Bulls’ rebuilding phase, Buzelis remains optimistic. In a recent interview, he expressed confidence, believing the team could surprise the league this season. The Bulls finished last season with a 39-43 record but are looking to improve and contend for playoff positioning.
As Buzelis continues to develop his skill set and leadership on the court, all eyes will be on the Bulls’ young forward. The NBA community is eager to see if he can turn his aspirations into reality and make an impact in what could be a pivotal season for him and the team.
