Destiny 2 Onslaught Salvation

The development team of Destiny 2 has unveiled its latest episode, titled “Revenant,” which introduces significant updates, including a new mode named “Onslaught: Salvation.” This update invites players into a defensive wave-based activity where three-Guardian fireteams face increasingly challenging waves of enemies. The mode allows Guardians to bolster their defenses by acquiring powerful units to fend off the invading horde.

Destiny 2 designer Clayton Kisko shared insights on the enhancements made to “Onslaught: Salvation,” addressing community feedback for new maps, enemies, and defenses. “There were a lot of great and constructive feedback from the community with the original Onslaught,” Kisko stated. “The one we heard most often was that they wanted Bungie to invest in the mode with new maps, new enemies, and new defenses, and that is exactly what we are doing with Onslaught: Salvation.”

The episode introduces three new maps—Widow’s Court, Eventide Ruins, and Kell’s Grave—that embrace a gothic horror aesthetic aligned with Revenant’s chilling visual theme. Unlike the original Onslaught, which focused on safeguarding the Last City, the updated version emphasizes fighting evil and rescuing captives.

According to Kisko, significant design improvements have been made based on previous experiences. “This time around we were able to identify the design pain points early and got ahead of the enemy teleporting issues,” he mentioned. Special attention has been given to map layouts, particularly in ensuring suitable lanes for Advanced Defense Unit (ADU) placements.

Alongside the new maps, Bungie has introduced fresh defensive countermeasures. Players can deploy Air Strikes and utilize a Rideable Turret to enhance their tactical options. “The Rideable Turret is good at mowing down clumps of enemies or damaging a single heavy unit like those deadly Demolitionists who like to attack the ADU,” Kisko explained.

Narrative elements within “Onslaught: Salvation” strive to engage players with dynamic storytelling. Jonathan To, narrative lead for Destiny 2, highlighted the collaboration between key characters, including Spider, Crow, Eido, Eramis, and others. “Crow is figuring out a new role for himself in the City, Eido is the player’s partner this Episode, and fans of the Eliksni and the saga of the Fallen will love what the team has done here,” To remarked.

“Onslaught: Salvation” is slated to become available with the release of Destiny 2: Revenant on October 8, aiming to captivate both longtime fans and newcomers to the game.
