Bungie Unveils New Destiny 2 Expansions: The Edge of Fate and Year of Prophecy

SEATTLE, Wash. — Bungie announced today the upcoming expansions for its popular online game Destiny 2 during a reveal event. Titled The Edge of Fate and Year of Prophecy, these expansions will kick off a new saga for players to explore.
The Edge of Fate will be launched on July 15, 2025, while its follow-up, Renegades, is set for December 2, 2025. Both expansions are available for pre-order now. The developers highlighted that the new content aims to refresh gameplay mechanics and core systems to enhance the player experience.
The new Fate Saga will delve into deep questions of fate and our place in the universe. According to Robbie Stevens, Assistant Game Director, the saga will explore the foundations of Destiny’s universe: “Before the Traveler ever arrived in our solar system, there was already magic here,” he said.
Players will receive an invitation from a member of the Nine, an enigmatic group of celestial beings. This leads them to Kepler, a mysterious planetoid at the edge of the solar system, enveloped in dark matter. Bungie encouraged players to embrace the new narrative by employing destination-specific abilities to solve puzzles and aid in combat.
Alison Luhrs, the Narrative Director, explained that the development team drew inspiration from various gaming experiences to create The Edge of Fate. New abilities include Matterspark, allowing players to become a rolling ball of energy, and the Void-focused Relocator Cannon for teleportation.
Bungie also emphasized the addition of new characters and the Solo Ops playlist, a mode designed for players who want to engage in gameplay alone. “We’ve only scratched the surface of what Guardians can expect from the Year of Prophecy,” the company noted.
To kick off the excitement, the Rite of the Nine event launched today, offering players a new dungeon-themed experience. Players can earn special Nine-themed Holofoil weapons as they tackle new difficulty modes.
