Cameron Diaz’s Ex-Assistant Shares Insights on Working with the Star

Los Angeles, CA — Janet Caperna, Cameron Diaz’s former assistant, recently shared her experiences working with the actress in an exclusive interview with Page Six. Caperna discussed her role with Diaz at the organic wine brand Avaline, co-founded by Diaz and her friend Katherine Power in 2020.
Caperna described her job as part of the wine team as a positive experience. She recalled, “I loved my role on the vino team,” highlighting her ongoing passion for wine. The brand was launched during the COVID-19 pandemic with two products: a Spanish white and a French rosé. Since then, Avaline has expanded its offerings to include red blends and sparkling wines made from organic grapes sourced from Italy, France, and Spain.
During her interview, Caperna also revealed that she remains “obsessed” with wine. She mentioned a “small group” of assistants in Los Angeles who frequently help and support each other in their careers. “When you know other assistants, it helps your job be a little easier,” she explained, noting that they share recommendations and resources.
Avaline achieved significant success, reportedly earning over $33.2 million in sales last year, making it one of the largest wine brands in the United States. As of 2023, Avaline was ranked the 112th largest wine brand in the country. Diaz, now 52, stepped away from acting in 2014 to focus on her wine business and family, before returning to the screen in the upcoming Netflix film “Back in Action.”
In the interview, Diaz reflected on her career choices, stating, “I’m just trying to stay alive just like every other mother.” She and her husband, Benji Madden, have two children together, ages 5 and 1.
