Capital One Customers Face Deposit Delays Amid Technical Outage
NEW YORK — Capital One customers reported widespread issues with direct deposits and account access on Thursday, as the bank grappled with a technical outage affecting its systems. The problems began early in the morning, leaving many users frustrated and unable to access their funds.
Complaints flooded social media, with customers expressing concerns about missing paychecks and account balances. “What is going with business checking accounts?” one user asked on X, formerly Twitter. “Customer service told me everything should be working in about 2 hours, and it’s going on 3 hours now. Still nothing has been resolved.”
Capital One acknowledged the issue in a statement on X, attributing the disruption to a “technical issue with a third-party vendor.” The outage impacted account services, deposits, and payment processing for consumer, small business, and commercial banking customers. The bank apologized for the inconvenience, stating, “We know it’s important to have your money when you need it.”
According to Downdetector, an online outage tracker, over 2,000 reports of issues were logged by 8 a.m. ET. The frequency of complaints began to taper off by mid-morning, but some customers reported waiting more than 24 hours for their deposits to appear. One user wrote, “I’ve been waiting 24 hours for my direct deposit with no resolution.”
The outage follows a separate incident on Wednesday, when hundreds of customers reported receiving fraud alerts and difficulties accessing their accounts via mobile devices. While the mobile access issue was resolved, the fraud alert problem remained under investigation.
This latest disruption comes amid heightened scrutiny of Capital One’s operations. Earlier this month, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) filed a lawsuit against the bank, alleging it misled customers about its savings account offerings. Capital One has denied the allegations.
As of Thursday afternoon, Capital One had not provided a timeline for when full services would be restored. Customers are advised to monitor the bank’s official channels for updates.
