Carnatic Singers Withdraw From Music Academy Conference Over Tm Krishna's Award

Carnatic vocalists Ranjani and Gayatri, along with Harikatha exponent Dushyanth Sridhar, have made a significant stand by withdrawing from the highly esteemed Music Academy Conference 2024.

This decision came following the Music Academy’s recognition of TM Krishna with the illustrious Sangita Kalanidhi award earlier in the week.

Ranjani and Gayatri expressed their dissent through a statement shared on social media platform, highlighting their refusal to participate in the upcoming concert slated for December 25 and their subsequent withdrawal from the Music Academy’s Conference, expressing their disapproval of TM Krishna’s involvement as a presiding figure.

The duo accused TM Krishna of causing harm to the Carnatic music community, disrespecting revered icons like Tyagaraja and MS Subbulakshmi, and glorifying controversial figures such as EVR (Periyar).
